The Two Friends and the River
A simple friendship that teaches the value of patience and mutual help.

Two friends, Devu and Manu, set out to a fair across the river. The boat was slow and Devu grew restless. He jumped from stone to stone, trying to cross by himself, slipped, and was pulled into the current. Manu did not panic — he held his oar steady, paddled to where his friend was struggling, and helped him climb back into the boat.
Devu sat dripping and quiet. After a while he said, "I was in such a hurry I forgot you."
Manu smiled. "When you forget your friend, even the easy river becomes deep."
They crossed together and walked the rest of the way arm in arm.
